What, According to Vamana, are the Ten Gunas?

Vamana's each Guna is of sense and sound-sabdagunas and arthagunas. These gunas are given below - 


(a) Sabdagunas (excellences of sound)


(i) Ojas (Compactness of sound structure), 

(ii) Prasada (Looseness of sound structure), 

(iii) Slesa (Smoothness. Coalecence), 

(iv) Samata (Homogeneity of diction), 

(v) Samadhi (Symmetry due to alternate use of soft and florrid dictions), 

(vi) Madhurya (Distinctness of words due to absence of long compounds, 

(vii) Saukumarya (Absence of harsh sound combinations), 

(viii) Udarata (Liveliness of composition), 

(ix) Arthavyakti (Easy comprehensibility of the meaning) and 

(x) Kanti (Elegant usage of words, brightness).


(b) Arthagunas (Excellence of Sense) 


(i) Ojas (Dignity of sense, excellence of all poetic conception), 

(ii) Prasada (Clarity due to absence of verbosity), 

(iii) Slesa (Congruity of ideas brought forth by ingenious turns of expression). 

(iv) Samata (a a-adherence to the proper sequence of ideas; b- case of understanding), 

(v) Samadhi (Conductiveness to concentration which helps to grasp the meanings), 

(vi) Madhurya (the striking nature of the expressed ideas), 

(vii) Sankumarya (Softness resulting from the absence of dissident ideas), 

(viii) Udarath (Absence of vulgarity or coarseness), 

(ix) Arthavyakti (Explicitness of idea, manifest representation) and 

(x) Kanti (Briliance due to rasa being manifested prominently.
