They have bearded the lion in his own den and succeeded in their bold enterprise. Dolon is a Trojan spy who is a weakling and he aspires for the horses of Achilles, which he will have after the defeat of the Greeks. He collapses as soon as he is interrogated by Ulysses. With no strength of mind nor any patriotism either, he readily tells the enemy all the secrets about the Trojan camp. The end of such a treacherous coward is easily imaginable. One conclusion, however fanciful, is irresistible. Dolon represents the soldiers on the Trojan side, who are, by and large, weak and often purchasable. Hector is not the rule, but a mere exception.
