On His Blindness as a personal sonnet.

" On his blindness " is a personal sonnet of Milton in which he expresses his extreme grief depression and worry due to the loss of his eyesight. This is an autobiographical poem in which the poet has reflected on his inner voice and strong faith that one should surrender to the will of the Almighty. With all the Christian humility he submits to the desire of the Great master, he shakes off a pessimistic view which he reflects in the beginning and resumes willpower and inner strength.

At first, the poet expresses his dejection despair, disappointment and extreme grief due to the loss of his eyesight. He feels sorry for not making use of his poetic talent in the service of God although he has a keen desire to compose poems in honour of his great master. Referring to the story of Talent in the Bible the poet expresses his fear that he may be scolded by his master for not making proper use of his poetic talent just as the third servant of the merchant was rebuilt by his master for not making proper use of his one talent ( coin ) which was given to him.

For a moment he becomes impatient and complains that God should not expect his service when he has himself deprived him of his eyesight. But soon good sense prevails and he is consoled to think that God does not in need of the service of man. He does not Swant any return for all these gifts and blessings which he has conferred upon man. He only wants that man should do his duties honestly and sincerely.

They are the best devotees of God who bear their responsibilities without any grudge. God is the greatest king. He has the greatest empire. Thousands of angels and prophets run day and night over land and water without rest to carry out his order. Thousands of others shared and waited for their chance to serve him . Duty is the best service to God and works real worship.
