Swami's Grandmother
In this chapter, the first part is devoted to the grandmother. The second part deals with Swami's father, and the third one is devoted to the visit of Swami and Mani to the house of Rajam. The story starts with the description of grandmother's room which is venti- the last passage between the front hall and dining room.
Here she lived with all her belongings. She is garrulous and likes to talk at length about events in the distant past, the memories of which crowd in upon her and make her discourse at length. One night Swami tries to talk to her about Rajam and his exploits, she gives him little chance to talk, but she begins to talk incoherently about her own past.
Then Swami begins to narrate the adventure of Rajan with two tigers one of whom is shot down by the brave boy. The grandmother is in all admiration for Swami's hero. Swami, however, doubts that she was praising Rajam only to please him, otherwise, she did not believe the story; for the very next moment, she started narrating the story of Harishchandra.
During the story, Swami went to sleep. Swami never wasted his Saturday at home. As soon as his father has gone. He would make up an excuse to his mother that his drawing teacher had called him for a class. Swami runs away to his friends. In the third part, Swami and Mani visit Rajam's residence.
They both get so impressed with his toys which he shows them. Rajam bought them snacks for the cook to impress his friends. But his cook argued with him and asked him to come to the kitchen if he wanted the eatables. He had to go to the kitchen and bring in the snacks and coffee himself. To hide his humiliation he told his friends that he kicked the cook and at that time he was lying unconscious in the kitchen.
