Monday Morning Swami and Friends was the first novel by R.K Narayan. It begins with Chapter Monday Morning. In the first chapter, A young boy named Swami, the heroic boy of the novel, He is 10 years old on Monday morning in the town of Malgudi in South India.

Swami student in Albert Mission School Malgudi And spending a weekend of joy, he was reluctant to go to school. But as he reaches the school we are introduced to his class teacher as well as his arithmetic teacher Mr Vedanayagan is very strict. Swami does not like him. He is scolded by the teacher for doing all his sums wrong.

Then comes the History teacher Dr Pillai. His method of teaching is interesting but does not conform to any known principles of education. Then it is followed by the scripture period and the teacher Ebenezar is a frantic teacher. He constantly criticises and abuses Hindu Gods, for they are just the price of a stone. When Swami put a question he pulled his ear.

Swami complains to his father. His father has written a letter to the headmaster that all Hindu boys will be withdrawn from the school if strict action is not taken. But nothing comes out of it, except the reprimand to Swami from his headmaster. He said that Swami should have come to him rather than going to his father and called Swami a 'fool'.

We are introduced to Swami's friends. One is Somu, the class monitor. He wasn't brilliant but it was believed the only headmaster could scold him. The other was Mani, the mighty God for nothing.

He was a sort of bully. In most of the classes, he stayed longer than his friends. Swami was proud of his friend. Then the third friend was Shankar, he was the brilliant boy in the class.

Some people felt the Shankar scored well because he flatters teachers and does their work. But Swami had no doubts about his abilities and considered him a marvel. Swami's fourth friend Samel, is called Pea because of his small size.

He is neither a good student nor physically remarkable. The only bond between them was laughter. The most trivial and unnoticeable things would trickle them to death.

स्वामी एंड फ्रेंड्स आर के नारायण का पहला उपन्यास था। इसकी शुरुआत चैप्टर मंडे मॉर्निंग से होती है। पहले अध्याय में, स्वामी नामक एक युवा लड़का, उपन्यास का वीर लड़का, वह दक्षिण भारत के मालगुडी शहर में सोमवार की सुबह 10 साल का है।

अल्बर्ट मिशन स्कूल मालगुडी में स्वामी छात्र और खुशी का एक सप्ताह बिताने के बाद, वह स्कूल जाने के लिए अनिच्छुक था। लेकिन जैसे ही वह स्कूल पहुंचता है, हमें उसके कक्षा शिक्षक के साथ-साथ उसके अंकगणित के शिक्षक श्री वेदनायगन से मिलवाया जाता है। स्वामी उसे पसंद नहीं करते। उसे शिक्षक द्वारा उसकी सारी रकम गलत करने के लिए डांटा जाता है।

फिर आते हैं इतिहास के शिक्षक डॉ. पिल्लै। उनके पढ़ाने का तरीका दिलचस्प है लेकिन शिक्षा के किसी ज्ञात सिद्धांत के अनुरूप नहीं है। इसके बाद शास्त्र काल आता है और शिक्षक एबेनेज़र एक उन्मत्त शिक्षक है। वह लगातार हिंदू देवताओं की आलोचना और गाली देते हैं, क्योंकि वे सिर्फ पत्थर की कीमत हैं। स्वामी ने प्रश्न किया तो उसने कान खींच लिया।

स्वामी ने अपने पिता से शिकायत की। उसके पिता ने प्रधानाध्यापक को पत्र लिखा है कि अगर सख्त कार्रवाई नहीं की गई तो सभी हिंदू लड़कों को स्कूल से वापस ले लिया जाएगा। लेकिन इससे कुछ नहीं निकलता, सिवाय स्वामी को उसके प्रधानाध्यापक की फटकार के। उन्होंने कहा कि स्वामी को अपने पिता के पास जाने के बजाय उनके पास आना चाहिए था और स्वामी को 'मूर्ख' कहा था।

हमें स्वामी के दोस्तों से मिलवाया जाता है। एक है सोमू, क्लास मॉनिटर। वह मेधावी नहीं था, लेकिन यह माना जाता था कि केवल प्रधानाध्यापक ही उसे डांट सकता है। अन्य मणि थे, कुछ नहीं के लिए शक्तिशाली भगवान।

वह सभी वर्ग द्वारा भयभीत और प्रशंसा की जाती है। वह एक तरह का बदमाश था। अधिकांश कक्षाओं में वह अपने मित्रों से अधिक समय तक रहता था। स्वामी को अपने मित्र पर गर्व था। तब तीसरा मित्र शंकर था, वह कक्षा का मेधावी लड़का था।

कुछ लोग ऐसे भी थे जिन्हें लगा कि शंकर का स्कोर अच्छा है क्योंकि वह शिक्षकों की चापलूसी करते हैं और वहां काम करते हैं। लेकिन स्वामी को उनकी क्षमताओं पर कोई संदेह नहीं था और वे उन्हें एक चमत्कार मानते हैं। स्वामी के चौथे मित्र समेल ने अपने छोटे आकार के कारण मटर को बुलाया।

वह न तो अच्छा छात्र है और न ही शारीरिक रूप से उल्लेखनीय। उनके बीच एकमात्र बंधन हंसी थी। सबसे तुच्छ और अगोचर चीजें उन्हें मौत के घाट उतार देंगी।
