Mesolithic Age ( 10000 BC - 8000 BC )
The word 'Mesolithic' is derived from two words - 'Meso' meaning middle and 'lithos' meaning stone. Mesolithic or the Middle Stone Age lies between the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods. It lasted from about 10000 BC till 8000 BC. The stone tools made in this period are called Microliths.
Microliths were smaller and sharper and Microliths were better than the tools of the Paleolithic period. Bones of animals and horns were also used to make tools. Along with the new tools, crude stone tools were also used in this period. People continued hunting while some practised the initial stages of domestication of animals. It was a period in which early humans began to control fire and develop a language. It was a period of transition from the Old Stone Age to the New Stone Age.
They made tools and weapons like bows and arrows, fish hooks and, harpoons. People formed settled communities and started living in huts instead of caves. It was towards the end of this period that humans discovered agriculture and cultivation.
