Advantages and Disadvantages of Micro Teaching
Advantages of Microteaching:
The chief advantages of microteaching are as follows:
1. The mechanism of the feedback device can be combined with other devices such as simulated social skill training and interaction analysis device which provides continuous reinforcement to the trainee-performance.
2. Microteaching can be executed either in real classroom conditions or in simulated conditions.
3. It is a training device for improving teaching practice and to prepare effective or better teachers.
4. The training of teacher becomes individualised. Each trainee makes a progress in developing teaching skills at his own pace depending upon his ability.
5. It focusses attention on teacher's behaviour to modify and improve in a desired direction.
6. It is an effective feedback device for the modification of teacher- behaviour.
7. It permits increased control and regulates teaching practice.
8. The specific teaching skills are developed by the microteaching experiences, e.g. reinforcement, skill proving questions, etc.
9. It prepares lessons reducing complexities of the normal classroom teaching by ' scaled down teaching'.
10. The knowledge of practice and teaching skill can be given by the use of Microteaching.
11. It is useful for developing teaching efficiency in pre-service and in- service teacher-education program.
12. It is an economical device and use of videotape enables the trainee to analyse his own teaching performance.
Disadvantages of Microteaching
It has the following demerits and limitations:
1. It is a time consuming device for developing one teaching skill A large.
2. Teaching is very complex situation. However, it employs very simple teaching situations. It may not work in the actual classroom situation.
3. It employs more controlled situations with limited practice in teaching specific teaching skills. The number of trainees cannot be given such opportunities of re-teaching and re-planning.
4. It requires teaching laboratory or small classes for re-teaching Which are not available in our schools.
5. It deviates from normal classroom teaching for which trainees ai prepared. He may not face real situation.
