Describe Robert Browning's philosophy of life.
Introduction -
The poem entitled prospect is one o the most celebrated poems from. Browining pen. The idea of composing the poem occurred to him through the memory of his beloved wife, Mrs Browning she died on June 30, 1861. although Browning was spiritually very strong, yet he often desired to he united with her.
One day he looked forward to his death the present poem was the result. It was composed death. The present poem was the result. It was composed in the autumn of 1961. and was published in a monthly Magazine, Later it was included in his poetic volume Dramatis personae 1864 the title of the poem, prospice is a Latin word meaning: Look for work, but here it means. On looking forward to Death. The poem reflects the poet's unique courage indomitable will and philosophical beliefs of life, the should and being.
Browning's philosophy -
The poem reflects three doctrines of Browning's philosophy first, there is doctrine that the soul is immortal. Second, there is the doctrine of the rounds of births and deaths. Third, there is the doctrine of Effective Affinities. According to it, the two souls which love each other are attracted to each other in the next life.
The last two doctrines are confirmed by his own statement appended to his poem when it was first published in a monthly magazine. The statement runs as follows thus I believe thus I affirm, us I am certain it is that from this life I shall pass to another better, there were, that lady lives of whom my soul was enamoured.
Browning's optimistic -
Browning is also optimistic in life. He does not deny the existence of evil or worldly pains yet he believes that human life " means intensely and means good, " here he starts with spiritual progress to take his soul doubt of the dark of ignorance and out of the mud of meanness and selfishness.
Browning's optimism, as reflected in his poetry, is characterized by buoyancy. In other words, it keeps the poet cheerful in the face of difficulties of unpleasant happenings and results, whether real or imaginary. He believes that being brave, he can win.
" For sudden the worst turns the best to the brave "
Conclusion -
To conclude, the poem is a lyric about the first water. By virtue of its powerful personal metaphor, chaining rhymes, striding rhythms it is probably a very great lyric in browning poetry; it is also conspicuous by virtue of its poetic thought which reflects the Poets philosophical views his great spiritual courage and his buoyant optimism.
It is also one of the most popular poems. Several of its lines have become so popular that they are of quoted by students of English poetry.
