Standardized Tests vs Teachers Made Test

Discuss the difference between Standardized Tests and Teacher Made Tests

Difference between Standardized and Teacher-made Tests In the standardised and teacher-made tests, the same kind of questions are used and they can be made on the same fields of knowledge, still the following differences are there between them:

1. The standardized tests are based on a similar curriculum being taught in the whole country or state; on the other hand, the teacher-made tests are constructed for testing of achievements of objectives in a specific school or class.

2. Such standards for various groups are given in standardised tests which are representative of the whole country or state at a specific level; while in teacher-made tests there is no such compulsory standard.

3. According to Dr Mahesh Bhargava, "The standardised tests are helpful in comparing the achievements of persons and groups of the different fields; while in the teacher-made tests is attempted to know how far the student of a specific level has achieved the objective of education."

4. The standardised tests relate to the extensive fields of knowledge and expertise; on the contrary, teacher-made tests are made for a specific and narrow subject matter.

5. The development of standardised tests is done by writers, editors and trained testers of the question papers, while a teacher-made test depends upon the ability and expertise of one or two teachers.

6. The development of standardised tests is done by writers, editors and trained testers of the question papers, while a teacher-made test depends upon the ability and expertise of one or two teachers.

In many circumstances, the standardised and teacher-made tests are separately useful. For example:

1. The standardised tests are carried out to compare the achievement of knowledge of different persons or groups; while the teacher-made tests are used to know whether the students have attained a specific unit of education.

2. The standardised tests are used to compare various schools and classes; while the teacher-made tests are used to classify the students or their acquired knowledge.

3. The standardised tests are used for comparison of knowledge in various fields of knowledge, while the teacher-made tests are carried out to see; how far the specific objectives of education have been fulfilled.

Difference between Achievement and Diagnostic Tests

Diagnostic test is an important part of the achievement test, The following is the difference between the two tests:

Achievement Tests

1. The field of achievement tests is vast.

2. There is no place for the guess.

3. Achievement tests can be conducted for each student in the class.

4. It is known by achievement tests how much ability a student has in a specific subject.

5. The marks received can be easily analysed in the achievement TEST

6. It takes less time in admins- a tradition of achievement tests.

7. This test is conducted for extensive study of different subjects.

8. This test is constructed from a Specific objective.

Diagnostic Tests

1. The field of diagnostic tests is narrow,

2. There is a very important place for guessing.

3. Diagnostic tests are for those students who are not able to do well in the class.

4. The objective of a diagnostic test is to find out the causes due to Which the student is not able to progress in a specific subject.

5. It is comparatively difficult to mark and analyse a diagnostic test.

6. It takes much time the administer diagnostic tests.

7. A diagnostic test is used to remedy difficulties and direction.

8. A diagnostic test is constructed keeping various objectives in mind.
