What is Overhead Projector
Among the projected aids, the overhead projector is a very helpful aid for college teachers. It has many uses and considerable advantages as a teaching aid. It can be used in full daylight, (no need to darken the room) as the projection is using transmitted light and not reflected light.
The teacher can face the class, operate the projector by writing on the special material provided or use prepared transparencies and the projected material falls behind and above him on the wall or screen for a full view of the students. The teacher is in full control of the class as he need not turn his back. to the class is different from chalkboard writing.
Teacher's production of personal transparencies and commercial transparencies enhances the use of overhead projectors. Further, it is comparatively lightweight equipment which is also portable. The teacher can use his ingenuity in the preparation of needed transparencies for his classes.
He can plan so that he can present visual materials step by step with the help of overlays or prepare transparencies earlier and use them at the proper time. Transparencies are not difficult to make. Instructional material can be typed, drawn or handwritten on a triacetate film supplied in a roll along with the overhead projectors. Felt pens can be used for writing.
Individual transparencies can be made and kept permanently and used by placing one at a time on the horizontal stage. As per the dimensions of the horizontal stage where transparencies are placed for viewing, individual sheets can. be cut from the role and attached to thick cardboard on four sides to keep it flat and stationary.
When a roll of transparency is used it can be continuously used by writing on it and rolling it to move and then get a fresh side of the transparency to write again. The written material on the roll can be erased for further use of the same transparency roll.
