Speaking Skills:- Speaking skills are the basis of good learning of the language. In fact, this strengthens the foundation of language learning. A student of language who is good in oral work is automatically good at reading and writing the language. Listening and speaking are important not only in the first year or in the early years of learning the language, it is important throughout So it should not be cut down or omitted. Speaking is the necessary groundwork for every other stage of learning English. Techniques for Speaking Skills
The following are the main techniques for Speaking skills;
(1) Reproduction Technique.
(2) Question-Answers.
(3) Role Play.
(4) By Performing Actions.
(5) By Showing a Picture or Chart.
(6) By Showing a Film:
(7) By Giving an outline of the Story and
(8) Through Oral Composition.
The details of this technique of speaking skills have been provided in the following in 'paragraphs:
(1) Reproduction Technique: It has the following main activities:
1. The teacher produces a sound and asks the students to reproduce it, it is done first in chorus, then in groups and after that individually.
2. The teacher speaks words one by one. The students listen to him and reproduce those words one by one. This practice is carried on in chorus, in groups and then individually.
3. The teacher speaks full sentences one by one. The students listen to him carefully. Then they are asked to speak those sentences. Sufficient practice is given to them.
(2) Question-Answers: It has the following main activities: -
1. The teacher puts questions to the class one by one. The. students give the answer one by It gives them practice of listening and speaking.
2. Questions and Answers may be between the teacher and the monitor
3. Questions and Answers may be between one student and other students. It may be between any two students. -
(3) Role Play:
There may be role-play between two or three or four students. They may be asked to play the role of somebody. The dialogue may be between a doctor and a patient, an inspector and a clerk a policeman and a shopkeeper etc.
(4) By Performing Actions:
The teacher performs actions and the students are asked to | observe the actions and speak accordingly. Then the students are asked to do the actions and I also speak about whatever they are doing.
(5) By Showing a Picture or Chart:
The teacher shows a picture or a chart in the class and the students of the class are asked to speak on it one by one. Thus they get a lot of listening and speaking practice.
(6) By Showing a Film:
The students of the class are shown a film for a few minutes and then they are asked to speak a few sentences about it. They get listening and speaking opportunities.
(7) By Giving an Outline of a Story:
The teacher gives an outline of a story and the students are asked to think and then speak a few sentences about it. This gives the whole class slot for listening and speaking practice.
(8) Through Oral Composition:
The oral composition develops the skill of speaking for a few minutes. Any topic is taken up and the students are asked to speak on it. The teacher may provide some guidance wherever needed. This exercise gives a lot of listening and speaking practice.
(9) In every teaching class
some time must be reserved for giving listening and speaking practice to the students. It paves the way to good learning of the language. While teaching anything or English, maybe grammar, poetry, prose, composition, and oral approach should be the basis of teaching. It will lead to effective teaching of English.
