Herbartian Steps of Lesson Plan
1. Introduction:
The main purpose of the introduction is to test the previous knowledge of the students and to link them with the subject to be taught. The introduction can be done by asking questions and showing audio-visual aids e.g. pictures, charts, some simple performance or activities telling the story or events, etc.
2. Statement of Aim:
After the introduction, the teacher should state the aim and name of the topic to be studied/The teacher should write the name of the topic on the blackboard so that the learners know what chapter they will have to learn.
3. Presentation:
This is the main part of the lesson plan. The teacher should teach the lesson in two or more units. If the lesson is short, then it should be taken up in one unit. The teacher should try to make the lesson interesting and effective; The Following steps should be observed
• Model reading by the teacher should be done with correct pronunciation, instruction, stress and optimum speed. With proper pause and articulation, the chapter reading should be done to enable the students to know the exact way of reading.
• After the reading is finished, the teacher should ask the students to introduce unfamiliar words, phrases and idioms using various techniques. These words and the summary of the unit should be written on the blackboard and students will write in their notebooks. The unit should be explained in detail using various types of teaching aids.
4. Evaluation:
After the unit is taught, the teacher will test the student's knowledge, to what extent the lesson has been grasped and whether are they capable of transferring their learning to other situations. Various types of comprehension questions are used for evaluation.
5. Assignment:
Source assignments or homework should be given at the end of the lesson to provide further learning experiments to the students.
